
Dr. Louis Alexandre Berg is Associate Professor of Political Science at Georgia State University. His research examines the effects of foreign aid and international security assistance on peace, security, and human rights. His recent work has examined the role of security forces – military and police – in fueling or preventing armed conflict and organized crime.

Elise Keppler is executive director of the Global Justice Center, a human rights organization focused on leveraging international law to advance gender equality. Prior to joining Global Justice Center in January 2024, she was associate international justice director and associate general counsel at Human Rights Watch.

Charles Devellennes is senior lecturer in political and social thought at the University of Kent. He works on the history of political thought and political theory, as well as contemporary French political and society. He has written three books, on Positive Atheism, The Gilets Jaunes and the New Social Contract, and the Macron Regime, which straddle his research interests. He is particular interested in the interplay between political thought and political movements, the use of political ideas in social movements, and notions of contemporary democracy.

Today, on January 21st, we had a Galette des Rois at the Cafeteria! The Galette des Rois is a typical French cake in which you can find a small item called fève if you're in luck. In this case, you become a king or a queen and can wear a paper crown.

Francesco Vitali got a PhD in “History of Modern Europe. National Cultures and idea of Europe” at “La Sapienza – University of Rome” in 2005. Since 2019 he has been a member of the editorial Staff of the historical reviews «Giornale di Storia» and «Nuova Rivista Storica».

Crawford Gribben is professor of history at Queen’s University Belfast, and is the author of several books that investigate apocalyptic cultures, including most recently Survival and resistance in evangelical America (Oxford University Press, 2021).
